Mid November weather is warm with sun and warm breezes rustling the changing leaves. The rustle of the Oaks as they turn their vibrant red mingles with the gentle sway of the Palms. The fall sky is full of puff clouds by day and twinkling stars and full moons by night. Fall in Southport is the best season according to the many long time residents. Beside the walkers at the beach, the fishermen are hard at work, casting and watching dolphins at play and boaters everywhere are enjoying their afternoons in the sun.
There are reminders that Southport has a long history as a safe harbor for many. The Intercoastal Waterway provides safe passage through the calmer waters "behind" the beaches. The marinas are full of sailboats pausing as they travel to their winter home in the southern US and Caribbean.
Although there are more warm weather days to enjoy, some have found winter homes for their boats, waiting until Spring to return.
Fortunately, Southport waters are calm and quiet and residents no longer have to fear the Jolly Roger.
Boats large and small are taking advantage of the fine weather, the ocean, river, and waterway locations and the freedom of the sea. Come sail away with me!
